Jane Norbury

Jane Norbury studied ceramics and sculpture in the United Kingdom before continuing her training in France. She opened her first studio in London, in a former suitcase factory called Unit 7 Studios. In the 1990s, she acquired a large farm in Burgundy, France, where she installed the piece *Têtes Brûlées*, first exhibited during the inauguration of Canary Wharf in London in 1991.
Since then, the *Atelier des Neuf Portes*, located in the heart of the Burgundy countryside, has become both her workplace and residence. Jane Norbury explores sculpture, installation, and performance through fired clay and raw earth. Her works are not only the result of her hands' craftsmanship but also the outcome of an interaction between the movement of her entire body and the energy infused into the material.
"Jane Norbury’s works seem to emanate from nature itself, without imitating it, finding a magical balance between the artist’s gesture and the intrinsic vitality of the material." – Didier Brousse.
