Pierre Coquet
Sea and Sand , from June 22 to July 28, 2024
Leaving Paris for the summer holidays in Cannes was for Pierre and Françoise a way to explore different subjects with a different atmosphere and a different light.
The port, the beaches, the people and the boats were for them so many subjects sketched and worked with delight. Cannes, its Old Port with its boats with tall masts flocked with small flags whose clicking can almost be heard in the painting. Le Suquet with its square tower and the church of Notre-Dame d'Espérance and from where the view of the bay is a godsend for the two painters.
Thanks to the characters who animate their subjects, we find ourselves among the holidaymakers installed on the beach with their colorful parasols. In conversation or bathing, we find in this sweet idleness a means for the two painters to animate their compositions by a subtle play of colors and shapes.
Further north, on the edge of the English Channel, representations of Le Tréport , where the couple used to go, will also be part of the exhibited ensemble. The white cliffs, the lighthouse and the jetty remain favourite subjects.
Staying on the theme of characters, we will also present animated Parisian scenes, more precisely the Luxembourg Gardens where Pierre liked to capture families or friends sitting down for a moment of relaxation and conversation on the famous green chairs so typical of this place.
