Boris Lacroix

French architect, designer and draftsman, Boris Jean Lacroix was one of the major figures of the Art Deco and Modernist movement. Trained in the workshop of Paul Dumas from 1920, he became artistic director of the Vionnet fashion house from 1924 to 1937, while simultaneously developing his own furniture and lighting designs.

His creations are distinguished by rigorous geometric lines, the combination of metal and glass, and later the innovative use of acrylic and plexiglass. Exhibited from 1927 onwards at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs and the Salon d'Automne, his works marked the avant-garde of French design.

After the Second World War, he joined the Union of Modern Artists and collaborated with publishers such as Robert Caillat, Robert Mathieu, and Jacques Biny, designing iconic lighting fixtures. Also recognized as a critic, he contributed to the magazine Art et Décoration, addressing the technical and aesthetic challenges of modern lighting.

Today, Jean Boris Lacroix is primarily celebrated for his lighting fixtures, considered to be flagship pieces of 20th-century design.
